Welcome to
Maintaining a home, not just a house, requires a considerable amount of time and attention. Many of the so-called domestic arts don't feel much like art. I, for one, struggle to find joy in doing laundry. It feels like a chore to me. I know others have the same feeling when it comes to cooking, sewing and mending, entertaining, crafting, minor household repairs and other activities considered domestic arts.
We now live in a world where we can rely on major corporations for short-cuts to which our grandmothers didn't have access. While it is hard to argue with the convenience offered by prepared foods and store-bought items, I believe we can and should reduce our dependence on manufactured goods. Through this web site and the classes I offer I aim to share my knowledge and love of the domestic arts, particularly my passion for cooking and preserving food. I will pass on the strategies that, in a busy, modern world, enable me to harness time-honored traditions like canning to reduce my family’s dependence on mass-produced food.
